oscars 2016: the bold, the beautiful, the best

Caitlin Surakitbanharn

the oscars are pretty much "it" when it comes to red carpets, right?  it's been awhile since i've spent time looking at and thinking about my favorites (why? not sure?)...but this year i had some particular favorites.  i wouldn't say there were any "the worst" dressed... who has time for that kind of negativity anyways?

but there were definitely some bests!  these are my top 5 + honorable mentions!

1. my favorite: Olivia Munn in Stella McCartney

she's flawless in this gorgeous warm fire orange one-shouldered sheath, right?!  this Stella gown is just perfect for her; simple, elegant...and best of all, it really lets her natural beauty shine through.  the simple hair caps it off... when you look at her, all you see is HER.  gorgeous face, pretty smile, poised, elegant.  so gorgeous.  and the color...yes.  she was like a breath of fresh air amongst a sea of white and green.  perfect!

2. Chrissy Teigen in Marchesa

have you ever seen a more gorgeous expectant mother?!  i mean, first off all, i love Chrissy Teigen.  she's SO funny and i think pretty much every person who follows her on insta is like... she is so me.  the girl eats, likes to lay in bed, and loves her dogs.  but anyways, this frothy Marchesa dress is a dream on her and really shows off her figure as she journeys towards being a mommy.  the red lace flatters her skin tone perfectly, the shape makes her bump look delicious, and most importantly...her smile!  all women can only dream that their husbands look at them like that when they're 7 months pregnant! he can't take his eyes off her!

3. Charlotte Riley in Gauri & Nainika

um excuse me miss!  it is pretty hard to stand next to super hunky Tom Hardy and OUTSHINE him...but his gorgeous wife Charlotte Riley did just that.  p.s. can you believe she gave birth like five months ago?!  Riley's dress is pretty much made for her... that deep V with that killer cleavage?  the defined waist?  the ballgown skirt?  the lace work? the red lip?  SLAY, QUEEN.  Tom who!?

4. Margot Robbie in Tom Ford

i know she's Australian but she just looks like a perfect golden California girl, doesn't she?  this Tom Ford gown suits her figure so well, and i just LOVE gold sparkle for the oscars.  it never gets old, you know?  and what really seals the deal is that clutch with that LONG tassle thing!  what is that?! i love it!  so unexpected!  and plus..her casual, tousled hair and pretty girl make-up are the perfect  contrast to the majorly sparkly gown.  she is pure sunshine on the red carpet.

5. Naomi Watts in Armani Prive

this blue, purple, magenta ombra beading is FIRE on Ms. Watts, right?  her perfectly peroxide-ed locks, porcelain skin and fire engine red lips combine to create literally the most flattering column gown imaginable.  i love this because if i saw it on a model or on a hanger i'd think...nah.  another beaded gown...and that magenta color would be hard to pull off.  but she nails it.  again, the effortless hair adds an air of chill to such a fussy dress, and her toned arms are doing her all kids of favors as well :-)

honorable mention: Sofia Vergara in Marchesa

i love this because i love seeing her NOT wear a mermaid gown!  it's a beautiful dress in a beautiful color, and it is finally something different!  she's such a beautiful woman and i KNOW the plight (she's curvy, has huge boobs, and can only conceivably pull off certain styles), but it's so cool to see her step out of the mermaid style and go for a ball gown skirt!  the whole look, with the sleek hair and pretty chandelier earrings is super chic and really flattering on her!  love this!

Priyanka Chopra in Zuhair Murad

i would say i'm usually not a fan of white dresses (a bit bridal) but oh she looks stunning, doesn't she?  this cut really flatters her figure and i love the metallic (literally made of metal?) belt cinching her waist.  it adds just the right edge to the very pretty, feminine dress.

Favorite non-fashion moment: Chrissy Teigen's face during Stacey Dash's super awkward appearance....

Next favorite non-fashion moment: everyone crushing Girl Scout Cookies.

everyone was on a hunger strike to fit into their dresses/not look bloated on the red carpet but ... in the face of girl scout cookies, everyone collapsed and turned into 7 year old children after school like....UGH TREFOILS YES.  do you think they had the gluten free ones?  i bet they were ALL thinking...i wish there was a freezer to get these Thin Mints f'ing PERFECT!

what did you guys think?  any favorites?!  what kind of girl scout cookies would you have bought?
