the art of getting dressed.

an American in Windsor : Meghan Markle's minimalist princess DREAM

Caitlin Surakitbanharn

I went through this whole thing where I was like I'm not even going to wake up for the Royal Wedding.  it's like at like 4 am here in California there's no way I'm getting up for that I'll just look at the pictures when I wake up.

It hit me yesterday.  I was like...wait.  I think I have to wake up for this. WHO WILL SHE WEAR? I'm low-key really into Meghan Markle and her style, I think she's a 100% KILLA, sartorially.  like she slays all day and all night.  she's chic, minimalist, and relaxed.  she's never overdone, never looks like she's trying too hard, I live for her clothes.  so yeah I don't know it started taking me over yesterday morning and then I was suddenly telling my husband that we'd be waking up at 3:30 am to watch her exit her Rolls and reveal her gown.  so YEAH.

I don't know why but I was expecting a more intricate gown - I'd read rumors of heavy beading, and although in retrospect I'm like obviously she'd go for something ULTRA CHIC AND MINIMALIST...but when she stepped out of that car I was FLOORED.

I mean....GIVENCHY?  yes.  GIVENCHY.  she stepped out of that Rolls Royce in a STUNNING gown by Claire Waight Keller for Givenchy.  not a stitch of lace or embroidery on it.  pure double bonded silk cady and not a damn thing else.  a bateau neckline, a modest train, and BRACELET LENGTH SLEEVES.

and the VEIL.  the drama.  the length.  the tiara.  I love that the dress was so minimalist but then the veil just quietly carried all the drama.  it included flowers from every commonwealth embroidered on it...with one extra addition...some California poppies.  ugh, love the little details.

let's take a minute here and appreciate the floral arrangements of the chapel.  it's so on trend - all the greenery with white roses (a nod to Diana) and it's just GORGEOUS.  and her little pageboys carrying her veil so expertly.  AND SHE'S WALKING UP THERE ALONE.  I love this.  LOVE this.  Meghan Markle is her own woman.

and her make-up...natural and beautiful.  Is she even wearing lipstick? she's just GLOWING from within (her skincare routine + all the juicing she forces Harry to participate in must be WERKING girl).  Love her freckles, love her not-perfect hair (done by Serge Normant!)

They married.  The ceremony was beautiful, funny and sweet (and way more entertaining and exciting than expected!) and "Stand By Me" brought the house down.  Harry and Meghan emerged from the chapel as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.  and that dress just kept giving us more and more stunning minimalism.  NO LACE, BEADING OR EMBROIDERY NEEDED, YOU GUYS.  then it was time for the carriage ride.

and sealed with a kiss (also Harry looks GREAT in this black military look that was also serving us some minimalism!)

and finally - I will leave you with this.  this LOOK.  the look of a woman who has gone from being a suitcase girl on Deal or No Deal to being an actual HRH.
