marc jacobs: MJ can be summed up in five words: seventies, satin, sexy, sheer, and nippletastic! i almost don't need to write anything more. the seventies are sooo back for spring 2011, and the trends reached a high point for the week at marc jacobs. the color palette of magenta, cotton candy pink, disco purple, gold lame, and charcoal grey made for super chic geometric dresses, pantsuits, and blouses, and cuts were so YSL...even jacobs had to charmingly admit that it was a huge inspiration for him. but hey..everything old is new again in fashion. the pink satin pantsuit is probably not the most wearable item to walk a runway, but it drove the 70's look home, and the big hats and big flower pins that showed up in hair and on clothes were perfect accessories to add femininity an already super luxe collection. my big fashiongasm moment was the one-shouldered black organza cocktail dress with the gold shoulder flower...it's flawless. and can we talk about the shoes for a moment? sky high platforms are here to stay, ladies! thank god. i am of the sect of women who can't bear to slide kitten heels on....i have a pretty legit policy of flats or 5 inch heels.... so i breathed a sigh of relief when i saw major platforms out to play for another season.
all in all, i think marc made the biggest, most glamorous statement of NYFW. it was super sexy, chic, and most of all...it was (with a few exceptions) incredibly wearable. a homerun for marc jacobs yet again!
