nyfw ss11: day four highlights!

Caitlin Surakitbanharn

day of my favorite days yet!!!!

timo weiland: second collection of the season that i had a major die-fest over!  i just love timo weiland.  the young duo of designers is ..yes..young.  and a lot of critics pan them for being young and exuberant, but i think the sales of this line speak for themselves.  TW sells out all over the city.  young women love their pieces, and it's easy to see why!  this collection is fresh and fun, full of short shorts, skirts, and minidresses in chic baltic-esque prints and easy to wear cuts that are still flattering.  the tie-front silk top with the cotton-candy pink skirt is spot-on for the twenty-something set, and the navy/white/olive dress has a uniqueness that every girl south of 14th street is looking for. it might not be the most grown up or sophisticated collection of the spring, but who wants to be grown-up and sophisticated when you can be young, fresh, and FUN?! this one has got my vote, 100%

thakoon: ah thakoon.  a pint-sized genius.  spring 2011 has been an absolute white out so far, but in this case, i don't care.  this collection is weekends in connecticut, weekends in montauk, uptown, downtown, and everything in-between.  the metallic jacket paired with the cobalt blue skirt is an unexpected, yet welcomed edge into the feminine whites and beiges, and the snake skin print dress just knocks it out of the park.  the girls looked cool and carefree as they sashayed down the runways, like they could hop onto the back of a Vespa at any moment and ride off into the evening sun.  the silhouettes are classic thakoon: forgiving, wearable, and adaptable to young and old, which probably contributes to his success... but that sheer maxi dress is probably best left to the younger set. ;)

lela rose: girly overload!  i'm a total sucker for a great closet is packed with dresses.  lela rose's whimsical yet practical collection is a beautiful mix of playing dress up and getting down to business.  the cocktail dresses are well fit, well tailored, and flattering without being gauche, and i love the black, one-shouldered draped dress...especially paired with the messy braid (which i love and can't wait until my hair is long enough to pull of!) and the red lip (we all know i LOVE a red lip!).  The sweet, loosely fitted shorts in happy prints paired with the somewhat oversized striped t-shirts and boyfriend jackets are a nod to even the girliest girl and her need to run saturday afternoon errands..which lends the collection to practicality.  And the eveningwear looks are ultra-feminine, accenting the bust-line and giving way to whimsy with the floating, ruffling skirts that are cut to show off a delicate pair of shoes and some ultra-sexy ankles.

day five updates as soon as i can.  fashion week has rendered me fashion WEAK!  coming up: marc jacobs, marc by marc and chris benz... lots of nyfw love!!!
