nyfw ss11: day two highlights!

Caitlin Surakitbanharn

and on day two, the fashion gods gave us...

jason wu: this is the first show this fashion week that i've died over.  wu said this collection had some "danger" in it, and by danger i'm thinking he meant "nipples showing through sheer tops," which is exactly the kind of danger i like.  the show was super cool from the ocean blue runway to the new Wu sunglasses.  i don't like over-sized bows, but the sheer blouses that sport them in this collection are insanely chic and i'd wear them all day long.  i love the little pop of menswear that appeared throughout the show in the form of well-tailored trousers and blazers, all in perfect juxtaposition with the flowery ombre cocktail dresses and the ultra feminine full length ball gowns.  the shoulder detail on the black full length gown are two beautiful for words.

peter som: color color color!  so far, the runways have been black and white, spotted with color, but peter som sent out a parade of leggy girls in bright, poppy solids and prints.  the short shorts with a punchy coral three-quarter length top reminds me of pictures of my mother from the 1960's and 70's, in the best way possible (meaning: it's my favorite look in the collection), and the neon yellow and blue minidresses are sweet, sexy, and exactly the type of dress every woman wants in her closet for rooftop parties on warm summer nights.

ports 1961: maybe it's freja, or maybe it's the clothes, but i really loved everything ports 1961 put on her on friday!  the show was full of ivory and beige (and i have to admit..based on what i've seen this week so far, i am starved for color), and there was lots of draping, but the overall collection was chic and full of sophisticated cuts.  i particularly loved the black strapless empire waist maxi dress.. (i have a thing for flowy dresses like that..they're so effortless!), and the asymmetric gown that closed the show is an absolutely stunning breath of fresh spring air.

day three updates tomorrow (including prabal gurung..who KILLED today, and alexander wang!), and timo weiland shows tomorrow...major nyfw love!!!
