alexander mcqueen: i can't even put how i feel about this collection into words. sarah burton's debut ready-to-wear collection for alexander mcqueen was everything anyone could have ever wanted it to be. the expectations were outrageous high. lee mcqueen is literally an unfollowable act, but somehow, burton was able to stick to mcqueen's legendary aesthetic beautifully without losing a sense of herself in the clothes. the collection is somber yet hopeful, a beautiful homage to the late genius yet a wonderful look into the future of the label. the gowns literally leave me speechless...the details, the colors, the structured hips, the feathers, the ruffles, the beadwork.. completely and utterly flawless. it brings tears to my eyes.
it was really a sad, sad, dark day in the fashion world when we all learned of the loss of lee mcqueen, but i think he'd be proud of this. he'd be proud to have his name on the label of this collection, and proud to have sarah burton at the helm of his label. wherever he is now, i'd bet he's looking down and applauding the artistry and craftsmanship that showed under his namesake. RIP Lee and BRAVO sarah burton!!!!
