style + fashion

the art of getting dressed.

if i styled them: belles of the oscars edition

Caitlin Surakitbanharn

the oscars are about a month away, and in my dreams, i'd be styling six of my favorite leading ladies.

Anne Hathaway - i know she's hosting but i'd like to see her on the red carpet in this beautiful Elie Saab Couture gown.  i know she just had a sparkley long column dress moment at the globes, but i think she'd look so stunning and chic!
and as for a hosting look, i'd die for her in this Viktor & Rolf dress.  she'd look fun, fresh, and high fashion.

Michelle Williams - the 'blue valentine' actress is, in general, a fashion maven (we can overlook the globes this year...), and i think she'd look traffic stopping in this poppy-red Oscar de La Renta gown (no shawl)...
the details around the bustline would add a spark of interest to her small and delicate shoulders, which are shown off thanks to her adorable gamine bleached pixie cut, which would also further accentuate the bold color and texture of the dress.  she'd be a guaranteed best-dressed.

and perhaps for the SAG Awards...i'd put Michelle in Dior Couture...
another fresh, fun, young, and textured dress that would play beautifully with her haircut and delicate features. and the sweetheart neckline...to die for.  omg someone PLEASE make my dreams come true and wear a dress from this couture collection on the red carpet? please!

Julianne Moore - i'm obsessed with Julianne.  just saying.  i have a major girl crush.  i've always thought that she's super chic but ever since she was the charming Charley in 'A Single Man,' it's been a full on obsession, and she's so fashion, i can barely stand it.  i think for the oscars, she should wear the dress that Tom Ford made for her...
i mean, clearly it's perfect on her.  it was made for her!!  and it's so glamorous (hello, Tom Ford made it).  everyone would bow to her on the red carpet in that dress.

i could also see her in this stunning Armani Prive gown, but i think for JM, it's all about that Tom Ford.

Mila Kunis - Kunis is young and breathtakingly beautiful, yet not totally quirky enough to pull of some of the more "out there" looks, so i'd still with a more classic look...like this beaded Oscar gown...
the pink bow sash would add a really great pop of color and would offset her dark hair beautifully.  she'd look so elegant and chic in this!

while i think this may be slightly too sophisticated for Kunis, this simplistic nude gown from Donna Karan would look great with her coloring as well.  perhaps a choice for the SAG awards again...

Nicole Kidman - NK really disappointed me at the globes.  she's so tall and elegant and beautiful, and i want to see her in something that just makes my jaw drop.  this Armani Prive would get the job done...
stunning color, great detail work, and the dramatic train would be perfect on her tall, statuesque figure.  and how amazing would she look if she won? holding the oscar ..in that dress.  yes.

Natalie Portman - Portman is expecting her first mini in the summer, and she is officially showing now, so choosing a dress could prove to be tricky, but i really think this gorgeous plum colored, hand-painted Marchesa dress would flatter her, as well as make her stand out as one of the best and most boldly dressed ladies of the evening.
and omg with that train... she'd be unstoppable.  i seriously just want to buy this dress and send it to her. it'd be so beautiful on her!!

she could also choose something like this Alexander McQueen pre-fall gown, which...no, that model is NOT pregnant....
but the accentuation at the belly area would highlight her pregnancy and the construction and detailing of the flowers would keep the dress feeling high fashion, edgy, and special.  obviously, it'd have to be lined more in the skirt.  i hate it when gowns aren't fully lined.  legs should not be showing if the gown is hitting the floor...unless there's a slit.  however, my vote is for that Marchesa!

what would you dress these leading ladies in?
