style + fashion

the art of getting dressed.

she smiled coyly, winked, and was like "...i do."

Caitlin Surakitbanharn

it's spring 2012 bridal fashion week!  naturally, i'm sure everyone was on the edge of their seats for this one, but i always sort of am, truth be told.  it's no secret that i love a big, glamorous, dramatic gown...and that's what most bridal gowns are, right?

wait.  let me clarify.  that's what most CHIC bridal gowns are... i'm talking Vera, Oscar, Marchesa, Lhuillier, etc. (even JCrew.. i think their bridal collection is beautiful!) and these are the shows/presentations that i really look forward to seeing.  Oscar was up first, showing yesterday...and oh my lord...Chicistan!

I always think of Oscar de la Renta as a somewhat traditional bridal wear designs..but i'm not really sure why i think this.  Oscar actually is one of the more fashion forward bridal houses...always being playful with color, volume (in a good way), texture, and even cocktail length dresses.  he, in particular, has my heart when it comes to ostrich feathers....obviously.

a few highlights from yesterday's show...

My Fair Lady....

for the chicest country bride to ever grace the Earth.. (i LOVE this!)

simple and sweet.

classic bustier, not so classic skirt.  the result...stunning.

for the more classic, traditional bride.

very similar to a Spring 2011 RTW runway look... just toned down a bit.

soft pink, done right.  i'm loving the trim he used on the veils and on this gown.  it's so preppy, yet clean and sophisticated.

something borrowed (perhaps somewhere in there), and something blue... and insanely gorgeous.

my favorite!  i DIE for a big, glamorous, dramatic skirt on a dress...and this is major major major.  check out OscarPRGirl's tumblr to see a shot of this one being made in the sample room.  i am pretty sure i'm obsessed with this one, and may even just go to Bergdorfs when it's time for the trunk show to see it in person.  not joking. i love it.

it'd take a bride with some serious sass, a good sense of style, and a sense of humor to pull any of these gowns off on the big day, but i get the impression that is exactly the kind of bride Oscar wants to dress...wallflowers need not apply!
