Resort 2012 - Jason Wu

Caitlin Surakitbanharn

Resort 2012 coverage continues with the scuba-inspired, beachy chic Jason Wu...

Jason Wu

Jason Wu is absolutely exploding...and by exploding i mean his collections are growing in size and in depth.  ever since his launch to mainstream fame upon dressing Michelle Obama for the Inaugural Ball, Wu has been experiencing rapid expansion in his brand - not only showing four times a year (and his Pre-Fall and Resort collections have gone from an experiment with 12ish looks to an entire story with 27 looks) but also launching a growing line of accessories (and earning a nominee nod for CFDA Accessories Designer of the Year award!).  it's been exciting to watch this talented young man grow his brand into an impending behemoth.

Resort 2012 is Miss Wu does the beach.  his signature delicate blouses and well-tailored sweaters are piped with neon and paired with short silk shorts with vibrantly printed trims, and the easy hooded jackets have signature Jason Wu touches... delicate flowers sewn around the zipper and then paired with a gorgeous sunny yellow clutch (even perfectly tailored tuxedo pants and a bow-tie blouse in there too!).  the cocktail dresses have a kind of scuba-inspired feel to them, yet don't loose the femininity that Wu is so famous for.  i particularly love the coral and navy blue bustier topped dress with the printed accordion-pleated skirt... it's young and sexy and easily paired with flat sandals or high heels (i love versatility, don't you?).  the evening looks are absolute Wu - frothy gowns with bright white flowers sewn on for a sense of whimsy and lightness... and the sheer, fitted, 3/4 sleeve bodice of the full length gown is modest...but sexy in all the right ways.

this collection is a step into casual chic for Jason Wu, and a well-taken step at that.  he tends to play more in the dressy chic arena..but a dabble in casual suits him well!
