style + fashion

the art of getting dressed.

style file - this week's highlights, what i wore

Caitlin Surakitbanharn

it was a nightmare of a week, weather wise, in Manhattan last week.  humid, torrential downpours, damp, unsettled...yuck.  how do you even dress for that?  i gave up long ago on rain gear practicality once i realized you can throw Hunter rainboots on with anything.... but the humidity is another story.  my hair was bananas this week!
sweater, Alexander Wang. skirt, American Apparel. heels, Banana Republic.

chambray tunic, jcrew. boots, Michael Kors.

top, jcrew.   heels, Banana Republic.

tshirt, The Row. pants, Gap.  favorite of the week - i live for a good minimalism story.

i sometimes play on this amazing website, fashism.com , where you can upload your look for the day and people give you feedback..i think it's a genius website, run by a really amazing woman, Ashley, and the feedback you get from some of the younger folks is hysterically amazing!  the feedback i get the most "add a bunch of bangle bracelets!" or "layer a bunch of necklaces and you're good to go!" and i've realized that i am NOT from the Rachel Zoe school of...throw every ring, bracelet, and necklace you've got on and head out the door.

more is more....sometimes.  for me, i've come to understand that my look is more about modern simplicity.  i wear the same rings every day...they're my rings.  and a nice watch..but that's it.  i like the clean minimalism of almost no jewelry.  but i think i'm in the minority here.  i don't dislike the way a lot of jewelry looks but it isn't for me.  it's better saved for the bohemians out there, i think.
