forgive me for the plethora of "Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" posts lately - i'm really into it. and for all literary nerds, like me, out there - you're welcome.
i started reading the Millennium Trilogy like 3 years ago - and i was immediately in love with Lisbeth. the ultimate underdog, she always comes back fighting. she's intelligent, tough, at times brutal, but always genuine. Lisbeth knows who she is and isn't afraid to be herself. if i could morph into any pop culture literary character, it'd be Lisbeth Salander, no contest.
in David Fincher's recent film adaptation of the first book, Rooney Mara committed strongly to Lisbeth - and the results are near flawless. her style is a mixture of slouchy, tough, and all-together badassness. leather, torn tshirts, ironic religious iconography, dark eyes, pale lips (Pat McGrath, fashion's ultimate make-up goddess, made the look for Lisbeth in the film. all hail McGrath), chunky boots, hooded sweatshirts under a leather jacket... Lisbeth has her own look. (oh, and lots of piercings, bleached eyebrows, and an edgy pixie cut...she looks AMAZING.)
so how to channel Lisbeth in real life? it's not too tough...lots of black. (and it helps to be petite, badass, and have a photographic memory...if you're going for real authenticity...)
from top left: leather jacket, Rick Owens. military wool jacket, Alexander McQueen. black snood scarf, French Connection. nude lipstick, Lady Gaga Viva Glam MAC. buckled oxford bootie, Alexander McQueen. embellished cross top, Topshop. raglan cutout tshirt, Alexander Wang. zip up sweatshirt, Splendid. leather trousers, H&M. double cage ring, Pamela Love. leather detailed sunglasses, The Row. marti backpack, Alexander Wang. skingraft black pleated fingerless gloves, Oak NY. drapey oversized crop top, witchery.com. tailored harem pants, H&M. spike earrings, H&M. slim classic trouser, Alexander Wang. felt tip eyeliner, YSL. motorcycle boots, Arturo Chiang. studded belt, UrbanExcess.
Lisbeth is about practicality... so the backpack and motorcycle boots are key. she's also from Stockholm (super cold. so burrrr), so layering sweatshirts over leather and then adding a chunky infinity scarf is perfect (and perfect for those of us who either live in bitter climates or get burrrr easily!). and c'mon, that Pamela Love is just too. cool.
