okay - openly obsessed with The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. it's not exactly a secret. i'm a bookworm, and the Millennium Trilogy is one of the best written stories in a long time. so to see Lisbeth come to life... immediate girl crush, right?
Rooney Mara plays the badass, tortured, feminist heroine Lisbeth Salander in the american film adaptation of Stieg Larrsson's "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo," directed by David Fincher, which opens next Tuesday - the the formerly feminine, ruffle-favoring Mara has traded her blush and neutral tones in for a look much more befitting of the powerful character she portrays... and she's been slaying
on the red carpet premieres lately in the likes of Prabal Gurung and Givenchy Couture. (oddly enough, apparently, the film is NOT tracking well with female audiences. c'mon ladies...an impossibly well written novel about a fragile woman who takes her life in her own hands & takes control...directed by a brilliant director... let's prove our intelligence and make a move to see a smart film instead of flocking to theaters to see another Jennifer Aniston romcom? we can do it...
her edgy beauty and ethereal weirdness is making her exciting to watch - and with a fresh Golden Globe nod for Best Actress, everyone is already dying over what she will wear during awards season. she's already snagged the covers of W, Vogue, Dazed & Confused, and Allure this year - the fashion editors and powers-to-be seem to be fascinated by her transformation into Lisbeth, how it's actually affected her style in real life, and how the very slimmed down Ms. Mara can wear anything she pleases and exude a kind of elegance that one imagines the first female alien visitor to Earth might have....
a vision in Givenchy couture, a simple ponytail, and almost no make-up. she's defying the standards of Hollywood beauty in a way that's truly making heads turn.
the back of the dress - obviously its Givenchy so it's STUNNING, but her elegant simplicity and uber-thin body only add to the alien beauty of the look... p.s. i'm going on the Lisbeth Salander diet starting tomorrow...natch.
in a beautiful, edgy sheer Prabal Gurung dress & peep-toe Christian Louboutin mary-jane pumps at the US premiere of the film. here again, she's making her obliques and her back the main spectacle without appearing overtly sexy. it's just the right amount sheer with just the right amount of innocence. again, paired with a sleek, simple ponytail, and this time a strong red lip (with no other noticeable make-up). again, she has a weirdness about her look that makes her fascinating and stunning.
well, gone are the days of blush toned ruffles and peach-colored frocks. Lisbeth Salander crept into Rooney Mara's psyche, has taken up residence in the beautiful young actress' mind, and has infiltrated her wardrobe.
elegance, edginess, and weird alien beauty.
i could not be MORE excited to see this film. and to see what Rooney Mara will thrill the fashion freaks with next!
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo hits theaters next Tuesday, 12/20.
